Gloucester has become a "need to register early" race - even for the Masters 55+ field. They count the total size of all fields at a given start time to close registration.

Race Report
It was all thunder and lightning before the M45+ / Cat 5 combined start Saturday. Early in the race I was following Duan Skofield or John Roche (team BOB) around the first hairpin curve and we were going way too fast. My front wheel was overlapping his rear as we drifted off the pavement onto the grass. The BOB rider went down, but with my cyclocross experience, I knew better than to continue the turn on the slippery muck and instead road way off course before coming back onto the pavement.

The weather started out miserable - 50 degF and rainy. First 30km lap (of 3) was uneventful until the climb. I wasn't far enough up in the pack when the climb started and I toasted myself trying to get up there - HR at 180 for over 4 minutes.

Race Report
For those who enjoy an early season challenge, we highly recommend this race. Held northeast of Albany, in only it's second year, the Battenkill - Roubaix is already being called a classic. All groups do the same 55 mile course which has enough challenging climbs for all the mountain goats in MVC combined with over 14 miles of very tame hard packed gravel roads (according to Themig who has considerable cyclo-cross experience).

It was an unusual start at Plymouth, MA with the juniors first, then M35/45 followed by M55 each separated by 30 seconds at the start.

Race Report
Jeff Bousfield finished 6th in the B Master 45+, while Jim Themig came in 8th in the M55+ race at the snow covered venue in Sterling, MA. Jim crashed hard on the first turn into snow off the pavement.
